SmVaK: Water companies have accumulated billions in debt, mayors have become nervous
The North Moravian Water Supply and Sewerage Ostrava, belonging to the Spanish company Aqualia, issued bonds for over five billion Czech crowns half a year ago. The massive loan of the second-largest water utility company in the Czech Republic, serving over a million people, has caused uncertainty among mayors of towns and municipalities to whom the company supplies drinking water and disposes of wastewater.
